    Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace
    Welcome!
This is a space for creative conversation about engineering, social justice, and peace.
We are a community that began in Canada and the US and has been together now for five years and we are finding friends and parallel networks in Chile, Brazil and in Europe. We are asking what engineering might look like if social justice and peace were central considerations. We are asking ourselves what we mean by social justice and peace. Join us as we explore these ideas together.
Please use the menu at the left to navigate through our documents, zine, and outside links. The discussion board link is on the top menu.

The 2009 annual conference was held at the lovely Whidbey Island in Seattle June 26 – 28. Engineering, Social Justice, and Peace: “How do we bring our whole selves into our work?” was the fifth annual conference focusing upon the connections between engineering, engineering education, social justice and peace. Previous conferences and workshops have been held in Kingston, Ontario, Indianapolis, Indiana, New York, New York, San Diego, California, Binghamton, New York, and Northampton, Massachusetts hosted by Caroline Baillie, George Catalano, Donna Riley and others.
The focus of this year’s conference was “How do we bring our whole selves into our work?”
This question is based on work by Parker Palmer, in particular his program, “The Courage To Teach”. It acknowledges that many of us struggle within our own institutions because of

This conference was a time of renewal and witnessing among allies. In addition to presentations we had time for walks and fire side chats in the woods, art creation, poetry, and facilitated discussions.
